The Conference Venue
Nestled between redwood forests and the Pacific Ocean, Santa Cruz is an idyllic college town of about 60,000 people located on the California coast. As well as the University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC), the town features beaches, beautiful coast line and the famous Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk with amusement rides on the weekend and games throughout the week. Restaurants are plentiful and varied. September is generally sunny and pleasant with highs in the low seventies Fahrenheit (20-23 C).
Santa Cruz is well located for those wishing to explore northern California before or after the conference. Monterey and the world famous Monterey Bay Aquarium are located 45 miles south. Heading further south will take you to Big Sur and some of the prettiest coast line in the state. Big Basin Redwoods State Park is just north of the city. San Francisco, one of the most eclectic cities in the US, is located 75 miles to the north, featuring world class museums, Victorian houses, Alcatraz and many beautiful neighborhoods to explore.
The conference will be held on the UCSC campus. The Workshops on Saturday and will be held in the Engineering Buildings, the AIIDE Conference Sessions on will be held in the Digital Arts Research Center (DARC), and the Opening Reception and Poster Session (), will be held in the University Center. Please see the "Registration" tab for information about parking and purchasing parking permits.
The Santa Cruz Metro runs frequent buses from downtown locations to the UCSC campus.

Santa Cruz does not have its own international airport, but is serviced by the San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose airports. San Jose has the closest airport, although the other two airports may occasionally have more economical fares. Please be aware that depending on arrival/departure time, travel time to and from Oakland may be significant due to traffic. Shuttles from these airports can be arranged in advance.
